Project Design Workshop
30 January - 2 February 2012, Addis Ababa Ethiopia

Early wins (non site-specific) - day 2

This workshop provides an opportunity for a broad group of important stakeholders to both learn about the project plans and to share their views on expectations from and opportunities for synergies with the project (days 1 and 2) and for the core project team to finalize the project details (days 3 and 4).

Early win: learning and impact, after 1 year (September deadline is tight)
Non-sites: a) methods, measures, approaches, b) policy, c) markets / 'organic' growth
Harmonisation across three FtF projects (M&E indicators, indices)
Review on lessons/methods/approaches and success stories
Baseline/appraisal: harmonised? Access to already collected data? socio-economic vs. biophysical.
Quick understanding of systems and scales.
Beyond specific crop --> go for production and nutrition

Methods and co:
  • Normalise data methods across FtF projects (baseline, q. appraisal, s.data)
  • Develop index/indicators/metrics FtF (intensification, sustainability) e.g. seed propagation, planting material, equity scale
  • Ground truthing site-selection;
  • Participatory visioning - Visualizing future context
  • Prospective analysis of technology;
Policy:
  • Get policymakers involved (alignment with national policy);
Markets / organic growth:
  • Identify 'good' investment (catalyst of change) an dgovernance, still linked to sites; working with farmers.
